About the Artist

Born and raised in Manahawkin, New Jersey, Rick Brown comes from a long heritage of Jersey Shore natives.  His childhood was steeped in the traditions of baymen, hunting, and playing in the NJ Pine Barrens.  Having a strong artistic gift for understanding various mediums and materials has allowed Rick to broaden his creativity by developing techniques uncommon for their application.

Rick honed his artistic talent through painting and drawing still lifes, landscapes, and wildlife.  Throughout the 90's he could be found painting murals in private residences and businesses up and down LBI.   He eventually developed a motivation for learning the Old Flemish/Dutch master 7 layer technique of painting in oils around the start of the new millennium.

Around 2005, a blog on custom knives caught Rick's attention and he feverishly began researching every how-to section he could find.  Already an avid knife collector, it was only a matter of time before he started practicing the craft he has become so passionate about today.
